How Much Does Executive Coaching Cost?

By Maren Perry, MA, PCC, Founder and President; Arden Coaching

The cost of executive coaching can vary widely based on several factors:

  1. The experience level of the coach:

When you’re seeking an executive coach for the leaders in your organization, you want to look at who the person in the room with your leader will be.   What level of experience do they have?  What credentials?  Are they certified by the International Coach Federation and at what level?  How long have they been coaching? What level of leader are they used to working with?  The coaching profession has a wide variety of people who call themselves coaches.  You can certainly find a newer coach right out of training, or one looking to bump up their hours who will charge you $200/hour.  You can also find a large organization or “celebrity” coach who will charge $50,000-$100,000 for a six-month program.  However, most professional-level executive coaching programs fall in the range of $20,000-$30,000 for a six-month program.  At Arden Coaching, our rates are below this in an effort to make coaching more accessible to a greater number of people, but our coaches are top-notch, certified at the highest levels and experienced with thousands of hours under their belts.  Contact us for a complimentary consult to determine the right investment level to meet your needs.

  1. The intensity of the executive coaching program:

Coaching companies structure their programs in different ways.  Keep in mind that if you ask about hourly rates, you may later be hit with assessment costs, meeting fees and per diems that increase the total cost of the program.  Arden Coaching executive coaching programs have an all-inclusive investment to make your budgeting easier.

To be impactful, we recommend you plan for a program that is at least six months in duration.  Behavior change takes time!

3.  Your industry:

At Arden Coaching, we do not vary our rates based on what your company name is or what industry you’re in, but unfortunately, we do know of organizations that charge exorbitant rates based on your industry.  If you’re a hedge fund, IT start-up or the hot company on the block, keep an eye out for quotes that seem outside the $20,000-30,000 range mentioned above; they may be taking advantage of your familiarity with big numbers.

We recommend you contact several coaching firms to get a good sense of what’s available in your area.  You do NOT need to pay $100,000 for excellent coaching!

As you look around for executive coaching options, use your common sense.  You want highly trained and experienced coaches, who follow industry best practice, are certified and are bound to a code of ethics, as well as a company you can trust and enjoy working with.
