How many times in history have these words been said only to be wrong?
On December 9th 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas by Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz made its debut to the delight of many; after both the producers and the network claimed it to be a disastrous failure before it even aired.
The classic program was written in only a few weeks and animated on a very small budget in under 6 months, simply unheard of in this time of 2-3 years to production on most animated films. The program’s soundtrack was unconventional using a jazz score by Pianist Vince Guaraldi and adding in NO laugh track (a staple of television animation at that time).
“It Won’t Work”…”It Will Fail”…”Your Can’t Do it that Way”…But it did work, with a bit of ingenuity and the right mindset it went on to win the honor of the Peabody and an Emmy. A Charlie Brown Christmas has become a classic holiday tale that has been viewed annually during the Christmas Season every year since its premiere in 1965. That’s a minimum of 50 times! Pretty good statistics for something that wasn’t supposed to work.
